Justin Bingham has 25 years of experience in biotech development and operations with a breadth of experience across product modality, stage, and scale. Justin began his career at Amgen as a process engineer providing technical support for the startup of the Longmont commercial manufacturing facility. Next Justin took an expat role as the process lead for the design, build, and startup of Amgen’s first drug substance manufacturing facility in Puerto Rico. Justin played a key role in building and leading the Global Process Engineering function within Amgen, where the entire drug substance manufacturing network was standardized and aligned around equipment design, and operational best practices. Towards the end of his 15 years at Amgen, Justin was the process lead for Amgen’s Manufacturing of the Future (MoF) which culminated in the successful startup of the biotech industries first single-use commercial manufacturing facility in Singapore. At Thermofisher, Justin worked in the Single Use R&D group to guide investment of R&D resources into single-use bioprocess equipment. His role included working with regulators and competitors to align and standardize single use technology across the industry. At DiscGenics, Justin was responsible for creation and implementation of manufacturing and validation programs for clinical manufacturing of allogeneic cell therapy products. Motivated by sustainability, Justin built and led the operations function at BlueNalu, including the design, build and qualification of BlueNalu’s Pilot Innovation Center, the first of it’s kind serving as a development and production facility for cell-cultured seafood. As a consultant, Justin was a technical operations leader for a large biotech firm guiding the design of their Next Generation Manufacturing facility, and also served as an SME for design of a new commercial antibody drug conjugate (ADC) facility. Throughout his career, Justin’s extensive responsibilities have included process development, process characterization, process intensification, process scale-up, technical transfer, equipment design, platform development, CQV, technology development, CDMO management/selection, manufacturing readiness, lean manufacturing, facilities/engineering oversight, and supply chain management. Justin is a technical operations expert who has consistently been at the forefront of biologics manufacturing innovation. He has proven experience in bringing products from research to reality and expertly facilitating the on-time, on-budget delivery of world class manufacturing facilities.
